Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD): Severe digestive tract irritation causing intense chest pain and nausea, easily confused with a cardiac event.
Acute Cholecystitis or Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the gallbladder or pancreas that refers severe, aching pain upward into the chest cavity.
Certain symptoms alongside chest pain indicate an acute medical emergency. Call 999 or go to the nearest Emergency Department immediately if you experience chest pain that:
Starts suddenly and spreads to your arms, back, neck, or jaw.
Feels crushingly heavy, tight, or like a severe squeezing in the center of your chest.
Is accompanied by severe shortness of breath, sweating, or throwing up.
Makes you feel extremely dizzy, faint, or causes you to collapse.
Lasts for more than 15 minutes and does not improve with rest.
