As of 15th November 2024, the following eight Premier League football players have been ruled out of playing for England due to injury:

  1. Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – Thigh – Expected to be out for 4-6 weeks.
  2. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – Hamstring – Expected to be out for 3-4 weeks.
  3. Levi Colwill (Chelsea) – Unknown (?) – Expected to be out for 2-3 weeks.
  4. Phil Foden (Manchester City) – Fitness issues (!?) – Expected to be out for 5-7 days.
  5. Jack Grealish (Manchester City) – Unknown (?) – Expected to be out for 4-5 weeks.
  6. Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – Knee – Expected to be out for 3-4 weeks.
  7. Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton ) – Fractured finger – Expected to be out for 2-3 weeks.
  8. Declan Rice  (Arsenal) – Broken toe – Expected to be out for 4-5 weeks.

But are they really injured?

It has been suggested that they are not really that injured; but are using a (less important) game against Greece recently (14.11.24) to rest and recover. And this has been encouraged by their managers.

Harry Kane’s view

This has caused the captain, Harry Kane, to state he is unhappy at England squad withdrawals – especially as some managers (e.g. Pep Guardiola at Man City) have been unable to say what their injury is. This makes people suspicious.

When asked if the desire to play for England has drifted this international break, Kane said:

“Yeah, it’s a shame this week obviously. I think it’s a tough period of the season, maybe that’s been taken advantage of a little bit .. I don’t really like it if I’m totally honest. I think England comes before anything, any club situation.”

These injuries have significantly impacted the squad, and replacements were called up to fill the gaps.
