Travel and parking on cancer treatment days

Having treatment for cancer is tough, and your journey to the hospital or clinic should be as stress-free as possible.

It may be possible, if you ask, for you to choose a preferred treatment time (morning, afternoon) depending on the workload of the cancer unit. This includes treatments like chemotherapy or radiotherapy (X-ray treatment).

Some units provide parking spaces closer to the ward. You will also be eligible for free parking if you visit the hospital for treatment at least three times a month, for three consecutive months.

It may be better to use public transport to go to and back from your cancer unit, because you might feel unwell after the treatment. You can also ask for hospital transport, if you are not able to travel on your own and there is no one to drive you to the treatment centre. Ask your consultant’s secretary to book this for you.

Remember that the hospital environment is unpredictable and you may experience delays in starting and finishing your treatments.
