Minor Injuries Unit (MIU)

Treat illnesses and injuries that are not critical or life-threatening. They are often near A&E departments in hospitals but can be away from a hospital. They are usually staffed by the local A&E team. You may wish to consider attending a MIU with the following types of condition:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Minor broken bones
  • Minor illnesses
  • Wound infections
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Minor head injuries
  • Insect and animal bites
  • Minor eye problems and injuries
  • Minor injuries to the back, shoulder and chest.

MIUs cannot treat illnesses such as chest or abdominal pain, strokes, significant bleeding, or pregnancy problems. Babies under one cannot be treated at MIUs. They are often open 7 days a week, 8am-8pm. Check their opening hours before your go to your local one
