Devolution

Transfer of power and funding to a lower level, particularly from national to local government. An example of this is healthcare, which has been devolved from central UK government (DHSC) to the three nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. From the start of the NHS in 1948, Scotland and Northern Ireland operated independently. Wales devolved fully in 1969
