What is the 4 hour target?

The NHS’s 4-Hour Emergency Care Target is a performance standard for Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments in England. The target states that:

At least 95% of patients attending A&E should be admitted, transferred, or discharged within 4 hours of arrival.
