What are the Causes of Weeing (Peeing) Too Much?

Frequent urination, or peeing too often, can be caused by various factors. Here are some possible causes.
- Fluid intake: Drinking more fluids can increase urine production
- Age: Older adults might experience more frequent urination
- Protaste enlargement (in a man): This can be benign (not cancer) or prostate cancer
- Medical conditions: Diabetes (may be first presentation), high blood calcium levels, urinary tract infections (UTIs), or other kidney issues (e.g. CKD; usually the frequency is normal) can affect urination frequency
- Medications: Certain medications, like diuretics (water tablets), can increase urine production. It is how they work, so they should be increasing urination
- Bladder problems: Stress or urge incontinence, overactive bladder, bladder cancer or stones.
Urinary Tract
In other words, increased frequency of weeing can be due to:
- A whole body problem – like diabetes
- A urinary tract problem – anywhere from the kidneys where urine is made, to the point where urine leaves the body.
Urinary Tract
If you’re concerned about your urination frequency or experience symptoms like pain, burning, or difficulty urinating, consult your GP, or local pharmacist.
